I lied yesterday and I'm OK with it . I was talking to a customer service agent on the phone , and near the end of our business, I wished her a Merry Christmas or a Happy What-ever-it-is you celebrate this time of year ."Thank you, it's Christmas", she replied . She then told me that she had lost her son near this time last year while her sons' wife was expecting twins . The twins were a Godsend and God was giving her the strength to cope with her sorrow . Now, I didn't say ," Hey, I didn't ask you about all that !" and I didn't say " Things will get better." What I did was lie . I told her that I would pray for her . Plain and simple . She thanked me , wished me a Merry Christmas and our communication was over . I'll probably never speak to her again . The lie was that I have no intention of praying for her , but , I believe that through my lie, I brought her some comfort .
Before you condemn me, let me ask you a question . If you are a "believer" , have you ever told someone that you would pray for them and then NOT prayed for them ? It doesn't matter if you just forgot. If you told them that you'd do it and didn't .... you lied . The road to your hell is paved with good intentions . If your a "non-believer" , have you ever told someone to "have a nice day" , even though you didn't give a shit what kind of a day they would have ? You said it but didn't mean it . It was a form of lie .
From a religious standpoint, a lie is wrong because God said so . From a communication standpoint, a lie is wrong because it muddles the communication process by throwing a wrench into the mechanics of dialogue . When we talk to someone, it is the human way to express and receive information so that we may adjust our actions or beliefs in order to act in a way that is acceptable to all parties involved . If we were to base our actions on incorrect information, intentionally or otherwise given to us, our intentions could be errant , making the decision process , in this case , retarded . Who wants to act in a retarded fashion ? We have a highly advanced form of communication in spoken language . I think we should try to use it for the good of humankind . In my lie , I did just that .
I'm not of the ilk that believes that I will go to hell if I tell a lie . I'm not a man of faith . I wish I was . It seems to make things a lot simpler for those who have true faith . I admire them in their strength , providing that they act in accordance to that faith . In the faith department , anything less than 100% faith, is as good as no faith at all . I can't seem to trick myself into 100% faith , and so I question, hoping to find the answer that flips my God-switch to the "ON" position . People who go through the motions of the faithful, just to hedge their bets, are the worst liars of them all because they lie to themselves . "I'm not sure if there's a God, but I go to church just in case." Is there a more self delusional sentance in existance ?
I'm not technically a Christian , although I believe that his message was a very sound way to live life, and make it peaceful for others to live theirs . I'm not really an Athiest , because there IS a higher power at work in the universe, I'm just not sure it watches and judges us . I refuse to be an Agnostic because I don't like the way the word sounds or looks when read . Above ALL, I AM NOT AN ANTITHIEST . These are the subhumans who don't believe in God and they don't want you to believe, either . Thay are as big of pieces of shit as the Christians who would wish them dead . My personal belief is that WE are in this together . We are all brothers and sisters . I want your life to be good and happy . If faith in a God does that for you, I'm happy for you . If you don't want to believe in God .... don't , just allow others to believe their way . Personally, I lean toward the notion that this life is all we get . No heaven. No hell . No kidding . If this IS all we get, it's gonna be too short and too late for me to start spreading cheer when I'm in my 7th decade . There's no time like the present to make others happy . The joy , peace and hope we can bring to others , might be the only encouragement that they get . I DO want you to have a nice day .
So, I lied yesterday and I'm OK with it . I did it for God's sake .

It's not that I really care about party politics , but rather , I want change. Real change . The 2 party system is failing . A 3 party system , if it existed in this economic climate , would fail . As long as "they" can keep us blaming the other guy, our "friends" can rob us blind and we'll continue to vote for them, and blame the other guy. In every federal election in the last 20 years, I've voted for an "Off" party candidate . I don't think my vote was wasted . I think that it sends a message to the Money Guys , that some folks DO know what's going on . I don't think we've had a government OF THE, BY THE and FOR THE , in a long time . Notice I removed "The People", just the way the government has . The Presidents Office has been corrupt since Lincoln , and probably before .
Honest Abe freed the slaves because the businesses in the North paid him a LOT of money to eliminate the cheap labor advantage in the South . Case closed . It works that way to this day . What we get to do, is select one of the two men offered to us by big business money, to "serve" as President . Exxon, GE, Chase Citi Group and others, contribute the same amount of money to each party's Presidential campaigns . Thus, insuring their hand in the operations of the U.S.A.
In the city of Barberton, Ohio, we've had 1 elected Republican Mayor since 1966 . Let's send a message of change . I want to help facilitate this in the only way I know how . I write . WE vote !
In the primary election, the current sitting mayor was opposed, and I lent my voice to the challenging candidate . Not because I want another democrat, but because I want CHANGE . Not only a change of the man, but also a change of party . The best way to get somewhere is 1 step at a time . The next step is for us to vote for Kevin Mitchell, and shake up the system.
I don't personally know Mr. Mitchell. He appears to be a nice guy , and he knows my dad . What he HAS done is tried, even before the election, to expose possible corruption in the Barberton Community Development Corp . Please click the link and read it in Kevin's words . Please, Keep your wife on a chain !
I was asked to do a video slideshow for the 30 year reunion of the Barberton High School Class of 1981 . I was happy to do it, as I like doing "projects" that people can enjoy . The reunion commitee supplied me with their yearbook and I scanned the pictures, added music from 1981 and threw in a comment caption here and there . The library provided a DVD projector . On the evening of the reunion, I set up to play the program, and hung around the bar . I was very content to drink a few beers and talk to fellow BHS graduates that I haven't seen in years .
Among the people I spoke with, were the mayor who was accompanying his wife as she was a 1981 grad . Mayor was a classmate of mine in 1979 . We shook hands and I was asked if I would allow a Genet for Mayor re-election sign to be placed in my yard . Hell, I don't mind , but politicians still have to ask . It's kind of a vampire thing like they aren't allowed to come in unless they're invited . I also let the mayor know that he could probably put signs in 7 of the 11 yards on my block without any complaints , because the houses are vacant due to foreclosure or relocation for a job .
Hind sight is 20/20 , and looking back, I realize that my comment could have been taken in the wrong context . I wasn't really tossing a barb at Mayor Genet , but I can see how it could appear that way and I apologize for my lack of sensitivity . I meant nothing personal by my comment . I don't really even hold it against the mayor for getting my Aunts cat out of the neighbors tree last year .In any case , I should learn to think before I speak, but I doubt I ever will.
Now comes the time for me to play my slideshow and that's exactly what I did. If youd like to see them, they can be found on YouTube . The clip I'm going to be referencing can be seen here .
Now in the second half of the presentation, I show sponsor advertisements from the 1981 Cigam Yearbook . Of the local businesses that were mentioned in the book, the MAJORITY were out of business . And that's exactly what I showed in my video. The sponsored ads with the words "Out of Business" superimposed in large red letters . About 20 of them . And mixed in there was a mention of Berlins Motel , who , by the way, are still operating on 31st. Street near Norton . How Berlins still remains open stumps the shit outta me, but there they are ! Also a mention to the Tenyak family, who have kept the Dairy Queen alive and well since I was a kid...Thanks, Dave.
Immediatly after the "Out of Business" section ended, the mayors wife gave me the finger . Not the bad finger, (although I'm quite sure she would have liked to ) but the wiggle finger, the one that means "Come here I wish to have a word with you ". So I went . She said, "Why did you have to show the pictures of the businesses that are closed ? Why didn't you show pictures of the new businesses that are here, or of the new High School ? " Seems like she took it personally on her husbands behalf . It was then, that my brain split in half . The first half took control of my civility and my tongue, and I said, " I was working with the pictures ad ads I was given from the 1981 yearbook. The stores that were closed, way outnumbered the ones still open and I needed to eat up some time. " The second brain half was screaming at me to tell her to go fuck herself . I didn't start it, I may not finish it, but I'm going to continue it here , as there are some things that she might not understand.
First, The economy is bad all over and Bob had nothing to do with it .The ex-businesses I showed, went down about 10 to 15 years before her husband was mayor. He didn't have anything to do with their failure , unless she knows something we don't know, and I find that unlikely. If that's the way people think, the next thing you know, the Republicans will be blaming Obama for the troops being in the Middle East .
Second. What new businesses are here that are helping the people of Barberton ? The B & W Research Building ? How many Barbertonians work there ? The jobs it created were for the higher educated folks . Oh, I'm sure they needed a janitor or some security guards, but all in all, the workers there came from places other than the Magic City . Probably, many came from other countries . I can also think of more recent closings , than of new recent openings .
OK, now a bit about the High School and Jr. High School , since you asked . There are some good points about the centrally located buildings . They look nice . They've eliminated some of the project homes . They've left other school buildings vacant and in the near future, the city can sell off the land to a private owner who will get it cheap and develop it for high profit with low investment. Makings for good palm grease, not that you asked . I'd bet that the new future owner of the school land has already been picked out . For the rest of us, we get a new levy on the ballott because the schools need money. I'm just wondering what kind of blackmail or extortion they're dreaming up to get the levy to pass .
In case you have forgetten , WE do not work for the politicians, so don't try to treat my like one of your employees . The people in office seem to have forgotten that THEY are supposed to work for US . Now, if a servant for the people does a good job and everyone is happy, I don't think anyone really cares about the corruption that goes on . But politicians , in general, use their offices to pull strings and do favors for the people that they feel they can personally profit from . It's been that way, it will be that way until the system we have gets restructured, and don't hold your breath for that to happen . When an official does something for one of the regular" Wee The Peoples", it's to trick folks out of their vote . "Don't let your right hand know what your left hand is doing ." If you're going to get a cat out of a tree because you like cats, why do you have to have the newspaper reporter there ?
In ending my venting, I'd like to say for the record, that I speak about politicians and politics , in general, and didn't directly try to indict any individual , save one . The system is set up to reward the person who retains his office and not the person who helps the people . All in all it's not a bad gig if you can get it . and keep it . When money and power are involved , sometimes there's no room for humor . I believe that a man who has compassion, a sense humor and who understands that life, wealth and power are temporary, cannot be corrupted . Hey, what the hell. Maybe I'll put my own sign in my yard and in 7 other yards on my block . Yellow with bright green lettering : VOTE FOR CHRIS !
